Suicide Awareness and Prevention

This Suicide Awareness and Prevention program is a private training for Sperreng Middle School.
The program outlines trends in adult and youth mental health, wellbeing, and suicide prevention and awareness. BHR will discuss warning signs and the impact of mental health issues and substance use that may indicate an individual is at risk of suicide. BHR also will share protective measures and risk factors and how to conduct a risk assessment. Attendees will also learn limitations and boundaries for providing help.
Topics include:
- Stigma around mental health and suicide
- Review of statistics in Missouri and nationally
- Inclusive language vs stigmatizing language with suicide
- Risk/protective factors and warning signs of suicide
- Foundation approaches to assessing/intervening with someone who is having thoughts of suicide
- Healthy and effective coping skills
- Resources available to assist
